Day 2 - Junk Food and Hiking

First night sleeping in, well for Eugene, awhile and starting off the day with the must try Puka Dog. They have fruit relishes, specialty mustard andall stuffed into the bun with the hot dog... the bun by the way is toasted from the inside

Those are all the condiments next to me and to the right is where they toast the buns on the insideEugene about to bite into his pineapple relish, spicy secret garlic sauced puka dog
Forget what this is called but basically its the souvenir shopping center of Waikiki... in our old age we couldn't bring ourselves to buy anything not practical... and all the cool stuff we already bought from Thailand.. at a fraction of the cost
We found Waikiki beach and happened upon a canoe racing event... I love how 60% of beach were young tanned fellas with six packs... my hubby included of course
Us on Waikiki with Diamond Head in the background, our next destination

We're climbing to the top of THAT... actually only a 30 min hike up about 1.7 miles or so we hear
Eugene and I halfway up Diamond Head... Cal represent
From the top of Diamond Head our gorgeous view of Waikiki... if it weren't for the gnats we definitely would've stayed longer

Snack of the famous Leonard's malasadas (basically Portuguese donuts). We were a bit ambitious and got 4 original, 2 cinnamon (these were the best), and one of each filled variety (lilikio or yellow passion fruit, custard, coconut cream, chocolate)

We arrived at Pearl Harbor too late to visit anything so we just visited the submarines... this is me in front of the USS Bowfin, we were going to try and sneak on but we got caught

Memorial of the 52 submarines that went down during the war... the flag is left at half mast... reading about their heroics makes you realize the movies don't do them justice

Zippy is Hawaii's equivalent of California's In N Out. Fast food that is surprisingly delicious

Zip Pac... Eugene won the best ordered prize here.. Spam, Teriyaki Beef, Fried Mahi Mahi, and Fried Chicken ... all topped on japanese seasoned rice

Fried chicken with chili and rice.... I love chili ... rumor has it they put peanut butter in theirs, of course you can't forget the macoroni salad... its a staple here in Hawaii
