Marrakech, Morocco Trip

Finally, pictures and headlines from my trip to Marrakech Morocco at the end of Jan....

Our first sight of sun! Sunglasses out!

After a suprisingly long walk... a sign that Djemaa al Fna (the souks) is near

Yea! We made it... sun and warm weather...almost helps us forget we might get SNAKED

Yummy fruit juices! Hello Marrakech!

My first but certaintly not my last tangine... lamb is the best!

Store selling actualy skins... Crazy!
So my friends wanted to go to a tannery, which was described to me as a place with lots of buckets of different colors where they dye the fabrics and we can watch from the roof. We were wandering around the souks until we asked some local kids... yea dumb tourist. Got led to this tannery .. which is NOT what we expected... tannery turns out is where they make leather goods.... we were met at the tannery entrance by a guy with mint... to hold up to our noses to block out the smell. Yea that's always a great sign. Then as we walked in he showed us one well with lye to eat off all the flesh, another with pidgeon droppings to soften the leather... that's right pidgeon droppings. Add the fact that I was wearing flip flops and the clumps of hair and "stuff" littering the floor oh and the guy cleaning the skins of flesh... I just looked down and focused on surving the tour. As Ryan would said it was our "own personal hell" or "the opposite of disneyland". An experience to be sure ... resulted in several delirious laughs over drinks and a very long shower.

Met up for dinner where bellydancers came to play... they didn't realize they were barking up the wrong tree.
Our dinner table... valuable lesson... Laura is seriously allergic to curry and Moroccan white wine is absolutely disgusting... but Lamb Tangine is superb

Ended the night with Houka and Cocktails in the courtyard under the stars... that is truly the night
Next day we went to Jardin something something. Went into this old mansion which was pretty plain but offerred a nice view
Some of the original mosaic still there

Went to Jardin something else where YSL memorial is. Really pretty and peaceful in the hub bub of the desert where Black Hawk Down was filmed... it was really an oasis and I liked the blue painted buildings too

Sarah and I enjoying the peace and chill

That night we went to a Berber Disney like Attraction of sorts... a little intimidating when you get off the van to a line of guys like this with rifles... they kept waving me over for pictures I think but guys with guns scare me

Sarah and I infront of the Cobra.. a sign of things to come

Sitting at the lamb table ... being served by James in his dapper manner... this was a trouble table... when we discovered that they overcharged us with wine we decided it was easier to buy another bottle than redistribute the money. The waiter also brought us the unfinished bottle from the other table... so yea we missed the show but had quite the blast on our own. Although we did almost get up when we heard star wars music... and we did catch the fireworks...puny compared to the US July 4th affairs

Lamb Tangine... oh so deliscous... although I think it was a bit more fat than meat

A flaky crust and almond dessert.. was pretty yummy... the show wasn't great but the food was really good

Pretty cool, the government didn't want to ruin the landscape with telephone poles so they made them disguised as palm trees

Day three involved getting mint tea and sandwiches in a cafe overlooking the souk with the inventors of the new game show Snaked... where you can have people get snakes thrown on them... yet I think the sudden large amounts of Sun made us a little crazy

Souk with baskets of potpourri, spices and beads
Ryan in front of the dried fruit and nuts counter. If you pretend you didn't see the flies the dried apricots are actually amazing
